The perfect martini

Today I hiked the Fragrance Lake Trail at Larrabee State Park near Bellingham, WA. This is a decent trail, but really a city trail. There were far too many people and dogs without leashes to truly enjoy the serenity that is usually brought by hiking. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice hike, your blood will be pumping with the elevation gain and the lake at the end is pretty. However, a Heather Meadows, Lake Ann or Iceberg Lake it is not. To make the hike more interesting, I suggest taking the Trailhead to the Interurban, follow the Interurban to the Lost Lake parking lot, then follow the Lost Lake trail to merge with the Fragrance Lake trail. The trail ends up being a little longer but the elevation gain is more gradual. You also get a very nice waterfall.

Now, on to the perfect Martini. This is my recipe:

4 Ounces Hendricks (Beefeater will do, and New Amsterdam is fine in a pinch)
1 Ounce Dry Vermouth
1 Tsp Olive Juice
4 Jumbo Garlic Jalapeno olives

Put the Gin and Vermouth in a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously until the shaker is cold in your hands. Poor into glass. If shaken correctly, it will be cloudy but the taste will not be watered. Add the Olive Juice and Olives. Viola! Your perfect Martini.

Today was an excellent day, spent with just my lovely and the sunshine that is an unexpected spring in winter. Oh, and Steak for dinner with a Blueberry Crisp (home made and gluten free) for desert.
